More than ever in the Resident Evil series, Requiem wants to be everything. It’s Resident Evil 2. It’s Resident Evil 7. It’s 4. It’s 8. For obvious reasons, it doesn’t want to be neither 5 nor 6, but accidentally, it ends up truer to their respective generation.

In-between an open-ended area similar to 4 in spirit and an area that is about as 2 as it gets, Leon gets to do something. It’s a pure console Gen 7 rollercoaster ride: dumb, over-the-top, short, slightly confusing and overwhelming, probably less exciting on the second run, but it’s there.

The Helicopter? The Train? “All Ghillied Up”? Probably not even close, but it’s not like we’re getting a lot of these as good and as lavishly-produced lately. And it’s in this moment where Requiem fulfills the Gen 7 ambition 5 and 6 could never handle.
